By connecting to the real world of students’ lives, authentic learning enables students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society and the wider world as active and discerning citizens. Authentic learning is central to our work as Catholic educators because it promotes the continual growth and wellbeing of the whole person — spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

At Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School Fairfield we are passionate about developing a learning culture that empowers our students as learners and promotes self and social awareness. Our school learning culture supports students to maximise their learning progress and achievement. We aim to build resilient, capable and empathetic learners and citizens of the future.

Learning Process and Goal Setting
Students play an active part in their learning. Effort, attitude and mindset are important parts of the learning process. Students at Our Lady of the Rosary learn about and understand the learning process, co-construct learning goals and take ownership of their learning and thinking. Students understand and can articulate the learning intention and success criteria for each lesson and understand the role of feedback in the learning process.

Critical and Creative Thinking
Responding to the opportunities and challenges of the twenty-first century calls for students to develop critical and creative thinking skills that are adaptive and innovative. At Our Lady of the Rosary, we believe students develop their capabilities in critical and creative thinking as they learn to ask questions, organise and process information, reflect on thinking, solve problems and evaluate reasoning. Students are provided with learning opportunities that enable them to develop and practise these skills.

Collaboration
At Our Lady of the Rosary we believe that social interaction is a fundamental aspect of learning. Collaborating with others challenges students to develop their communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
